Increasing Movement Speed
Is increasing ur movement speed (using skills like sprint and rush) generally very helpful during a mission or combat situation? I mean, u only get to equip 8 skills, so would a kill like sprint be a waste to equip? I can't think of any common situation where it would be more useful than another skill that's actually combat related. What do u guys think? Thanks.

For pvp having a run skill is nice for anti kite. But if you have a good snare or a kd its not a big deal really.

For PvE though, a run skill generally isn't a very good idea for missions unless you want a way to get out quickly and save your party from wiping (best done with a reusable res such as rebirth or something). There are certain circumstances though where running is more preferable to fighting though.

I would say no, I usually use h/h, and when I have an increased movespeed, I tend to use it as often as possible, then eventually i'll get too far ahead, and end up rushing into a big group of enemies way ahead of the h/h.

Movement speed (or snares, a way to slow down your enemy) are very useful in Hard Mode PvE (accessable after you beat the game for the 1st time) since all the monsters run extra fast.
It is especially useful in PvP. See, casters in PvP move around constantly. That is because it slows down how fast a warrior/dervish/assassin can hit them. The attacker has to run, catch up to them, then hit them. If a caster is constantly moving, it significantly reduces how much damage those characters have to take. Thus why movement speed buffs can be useful. Now in PvE, stuff USUALLY stands there and lets you wack away at it. There are situations where they won't however (certain monsters have better AI, attacking melee AI opponents who are aggroed onto a caster, a teammate is using an AoE designed to scatter, etc). |

Well, Some skills like [skill]Natural Stride[/skill] offer a speed bonus, and a chance to block attacks which works as a good anti-aggro and utility skill.
Sometimes I'll bring a stance, but generally one that offers a blocking bonus as opposed to a speed bonus. |

Usually not, but some missions really help if you have a party speed boost like Charge! or Fall Back!
Such as Night Fall Challenge Missions, Dzagonur Bastion, Jennur's Horde. Also helps in some of the timed Faction missions, but not as much. |

General PvE? No, I've never found a use for them. In any situation where I actually needed to catch something a snare worked just as well and was MUCH more generally useful. In any case I needed to kite normal speed worked and if I was under the effects of a snare none of the movement speed up's worked. True even in HM, while in HM I would occasionally run into a case where I wanted them it was still MUCH more limited in scope than taking a snare or other damage skill.
Of course, some specialized PvE they are vital - some farming builds depend on them and, obviously, runners tend to want increased speed. Especially as in Normal Mode that tends to break most aggro. Though I would add that is even *more* reason why it is not terribly useful in PvE - scatter is almost always a Bad Thing(TM). Then there is the occasional place where I know I can avoid all but one or two fights and can run around everything - two warriors alternating "Charge" is quite nice there I don't PvP - but even in my limited knowledge of it I can very much see where they are useful. You will have to listen to others for anything other than random ramblings that are only going to be partially correct. |

[skill]Enraging Charge[/skill], [skill]Dark Escape[/skill] and skills like them are also used (commonly?) in PvE, for melee characters to get into or out of combat faster. And as much for their other effects as the speed increase.
Speed increase alone does not quite justify a skill slot in a non-running build. |

Thanks a lot guy. Also, can anyone tell me how to kite? I keep hearing that it's useful in dodging attacks. However, wiki says that it's better to kite with the mouse than the keyboard. This doesn't make sense to me, since with the keyboard u can sidestep and backpaddle whereas with the mouse u would just turn toward a direction and run. So, is it better to use a keyboard or mouse to kite?

Technically, mouse movement is faster for kiting. If you mouse-click to move, your character instantly turns that direction and runs forward to that spot. Running forward is faster than any other form of movement.
It doesn't really matter that much in PvE, to be honest. The only time you'll likely need that extra movement speed in PvE is dodging projectiles. |

You're supposed to move before they reach you, not wait until they hit you first. If they are in melee range already, then you're half-right. You take criticals from melee when you are fleeing, but you can do all kinds of movement to avoid this, such as circle-strafing, side-stepping away facing at a 90 degree angle relative to your foe, etc.
